My Favorite Shop

My favorite shop is Attic Needlework in Mesa, Arizona.

I have only been to this shop once, but if you like samplers this is the place to go.  Their walls are full of wonderful samplers.  They have a monthly newsletter that highlights some of them, including new ones, those stitched by customers, etc.  Go to their web site and see what they have to offer.

My Mom's Samplers

Okay, maybe this is supposed to be about my stitchery, but I HAVE to brag about some of my mother's beautiful handiwork.  She has some amazing pieces hanging on her walls and I have vowed to take some photos so I can brag for her.  (Clicking on any image will bring a close-up view.)

They are:
Mouline Rouge by Long Dog Samplers
Love the colors in this one.
We chose 32 count Putty linen from Zeigart along
with Slate Green overdyed silk from Gloriana.
It is absolutely beautiful, and a change from the strong reds, etc.
I have seen in many Quakers.

Growing Like a Tree from Moira Blackburn

1826 Museum Celle by Permin Graphs
This was done in the called for colors I believe, a navy with red accent colors.

Tea Dying versus Coffee

I have seen a log of bloggers talk about tea dying their linen and thought I would add my two cents worth.  I love tea dyed things and have done a lot of it on my embroidery stitcheries so when I was in at Shepherd's Bush last month I asked them about it.  They told me that tea has acid in it that will eventually destroy the fibers of your project and they recommended that you coffee dye only.  There is also a Rit dye out there that would probably be safer as well.

Hope this helps save someone's beautiful project.

Happy Valentine's Day!

First of all Happy Valentine's Day to everyone.  I hope you all have someone that you love to share it with, whether a husband, companion, children, or a friend.  It is so wonderful to have others in our lives and I am happy to have found a world of super blogging women.  What special ladies you all are.  Thanks for including me in your lives.

Just got done with my Cross Fit workout and am feeling SOOOO proud of myself today.  I did 45 pull-ups and 45 squat thrusters with 30 pounds.  Not as good as the younger women, but awesome for me at age 55.  Feels so good.

Have a super day!

Just thought I'd show you a few photos of my "forever project."  I have worked on this for hours and hours and hours.  Each piece is about 3/4" big.  Kind of one of those fun, mindless projects.  I especially like the flowers where I have been able to do fussy cuts.

And I particularly like the back, simply because the pieces look even smaller, and if I were really crazy I would do a whole quilt in 3/8" to 1/2" pieces to get that look.

Have a great day everyone.

I just came back from a viewing for  the son of a friend of ours.  He had taken his own life.  My heart aches for them.  I ache for him.  I ache for so many who have taken the same path.  This is the sixth or seventh young adult that I have known and each one is so hard to comprehend.  They each come from good, happy homes.  Most were happy, confident, and successful kids.

I just cannot understand, but the only thing that I can surmise is that life is so difficult for our young people.  They cannot comprehend the finality of their decisions, and when one is so depressed, enough to take his or her life, they are obviously not able to understand the pain that they will be inflicting on their friends and family.  Heavenly Father must be aching for them as well, and I pray that he will take them in his arms and bless and comfort them, and heal them from the pain they have endured, and I especially pray for comfort and peace for those that are left behind.  He is a loving Father and will make all right eventually, and his judgements will be kind and just.

On a much lighter note...because I need to get myself feeling better...Yesterday I went to my Cross Fit workout and on the way ate a piece of pecan fudge.  YUMMM!  The funny thing was that I confessed the "error of my ways" to a couple of the other women in the group.  One told me she had eaten a whole row of Oreo cookies the night before and the other had been craving chocolate so had baked a chocolate cake.  We all felt sick during the workout.  Not sure it was worth it.  We are so naughty, but we had a good laugh.  Hey, we are working out hard!  We deserve to treat ourselves once in a while. LOL  We just had to make a pact not to "rat" on each other to the instructor who is constantly telling us we HAVE to eat right.

For Sale Or Trade

I am feeling a bit (no....a whole lot) overwhelmed by the stash that I have accumulated.  One of the bad things about that is that I feel like I can never die.  You know the saying, "God put me on earth to accomplish a certain number of things.  Right now I am so far behind I will never die."  Well, that's me.  So, you can see my dilemma.  That is why I am going to alleviate myself of the stress.  I am therefore putting much of my stash up for sale or trade.  I must focus on those that I REALLY, REALLY want to do.  Please go to the link at the right if you would like to peruse my list...This is only the beginning, so keep in touch.
